The Challenge At the Dolceforte Restaurant in Siena (www.dolcefortesiena.com) three magnificent representatives of quality drink making competed for the "best pairing" trophy, judged by over 50 foodies, journalists and trade operators: Adami Spumanti's Valdobbiadene Docg Prosecco, Olmaia's High Fermentation Light Beer "La 5" and Salcheto's Vino Nobile di Montepulciano docg. On the gaming table the courses proposed by David Merolli, owner of Dolceforte, challenged with a variety of perfumes, first among them, the much-feared artichoke. The result was an overall victory of Montepulciano's Sangiovese made by Salcheto, which also took over with two out of three courses, pasta course and cheeses. The challenge though seemed very tight with average scores close and a Beer winning the meat course. But Moreno of Olmaia Brewey relaunched the battle: "I am waiting for you guys on fish this summer!" Stefano Della Giovanpaola, representing Adami winery seemed to be already savouring success, but the Sangiovese makers are not shying away from the challenge. Food and Wine writer Giovanni Pellicci, who organised the event, has noted the challenge, and promised to organize “The Challenge, 2”. |

Salco 2005 presentation at Vinitaly On April 9, 2011, over 60 journalists and trade members attended the tasting and launch presentation of Salco Evoluzione 2005, held during last Vinitaly. Oenologist Paolo Vagaggini and President of the Consorzio del Vino Nobile di Montepulciano, Federico Carletti, joined Michele Manelli for this presentation. The Salco 2005 project highlights a cultural and technical journey of 4 years, in which this Vino Nobile made of Sangiovese, one of the most celebrated aged red wines of Tuscany by numerous critics, spent maturing in bottle with both a natural cork and a screw-cap in Salcheto's cellar. This unique and surprising experience will be available to all who purchase the two bottle case, and also through the blog area of the www.salco2005.it website (online from june 1st, 2011) where the tasting experience will be shared. In addition, various documents and information on the subject will be available online. The wine presentation was the chance to introduce Salco's unique box design, which also carries a number of messages Salcheto cares about and wanted to share: made in cooperation with Palm Design from wood collected from the pallets industry, it can be re-used as a garden of sage and rosemary with seeds provided in the box. The wine labels display messages which all the members at Salcheto dedicate to the company, in this very important year for theirs, and Salcheto’s, professional and social life. |

Vinitaly 2011! This Vinitaly was dedicated to Salco 2005 as well as to the idea of respecting wood and wood product derivatives. The booth that will be with us for the next exhibitions is made of ecological pallets designed and built by Palm Design of Viadana (www.palmdesign.it), with whom we created our Sangiovese cru boxes, which becomes a rosemary and sage garden. While tasting the new vintages of the "Made in Montepulciano" wines, with the 2010 vintage presenting with a rich first expression, Vinitaly also the opportunity to introduce the winery’s new policy on packaging, corks, paper, cartons and pallets, which will all be sourced only from controlled and PEFC or FSC certified sources. We thank all the friends who stop by year after year with joy and we also thank Garda Lake (seen in the pictures from our little corner of paradise of Albisano's Hotel Panorama), which is our Vinitaly oasis of relaxation. |
